I'm not gonna look a Timothy Olyphant horse in the mouth, first of all. But genuinely I think that a STRENGTH of the Alien franchise is how point of view informs what is perceived to be canon. You can certainly watch the first few films and just say, "endomorph scary, alien gross," but alien: earth is CERTAINLY still offering you that. it's just also, in three very strong episodes, tracing the seams between the idea of playing God and creation and the body horror of pregnancy, sensuality, and the terror that those things are linked. YOU LOVE TO SEE IT! It honestly is conjuring some Battlestar Galactica feelings for me. I went in expecting to find a few things interesting here or there and have been pleasantly surprised.
