TIL it was the second biggest camp and just women? Sexism really loves to just erase people from history. Thanks for sharing

My Oma’s sister, Hilda was sent to Ravensbrück. She was at a cafe & two SS soldiers overheard her & a friend making jokes about H*lter.

I saw the movie Nelly&Nadine at a queer film festival and I (barely) held it together, until they interviewed the descendants of some of the survivors the couple helped escape and one said she was named after Nadine. Their legacy is so strong and it makes me wonder how many other people are not honoured properly now just because their identities were considered "other" by society.

Just to add to this bc I went to a screening of this movie last November in Paris and Sylvie was there for a Q&A afterward where she said that she was planing on getting the memoir published, so while it’s not published yet, it very likely will happen in the near future

We need more happy endings in cinema, I’m fed up that they always end in death or disaster it’s such a negative message that queer relationships are doomed, my sister has been with her partner for 17 years for goodness sake’s 😏

when we went with white busses to Germany and Polen all of us went to Ravensbrück. It was as far as I know one of the camps that still is visited and taught about here. (Norway). May this be a question of where in the world you live, what camps you learn about?

can we just take a moment to be thankful the granddaughter was not a bigot. otherwise these women's stories would probably never have seen the light of day ♥️

I read Corrie ten Boom’s The Hiding Place several times as a teenager. It’s the story of her and her sister Betsie’s experience at Ravensbruck. I’m pretty sure I remember her mentioning a lady who sang opera in the barracks. I wonder if it was Nelly? I’m so glad she survived ♥️

I have such a deep admiration and appreciation for you and your work. Madama Butterfly is one of the operas we cover in our non-majors course and the ending is always devastating so Nadine and Nelly having reunited is beautiful beyond words 😭💛
