This experience takes place at the home and workshop of the Tanimura family, who have been making traditional bamboo tea whisks (”chasen”) for over 500 years. The current master, Tanimura Tango, is the 20th generation in a long line of craftsmen preserving this heritage. The session begins with a demonstration by Tango-san, where you’ll observe the delicate process of hand-crafting a chasen from a single piece of bamboo. You’ll learn to complete the threading process, personalizing your own unique whisk to take home. The experience finishes with a tea ceremony, where you can chat and learn more from Tango-san.
