I now hold a bachelors degree in a masters degree and have a very successful career, but I never give 100% of myself I will not work the way I saw my mama work

I’m at a point in my career where I can solution for a client and their ask in less than an hour because of years of experience I have. Do I just bill them for that hour? No, I bill them for the years of experience it took to be able to answer that question that quickly. if I could bill them more per hour than what a junior consultant could bill them, that would be nice.

I’m so grateful I don’t work in a billable hour world. Academia isn’t better but at least I’m not counting hours.

wait till you start looking at brain organoid computers. They have to let them sleep and entertain them. they also die of hypoxia after I think 6 months. 🥹

I saw something years ago that male lawyers will bill for thinking about your case in the shower and female lawyers will only bill for time spent on the keyboard. True or not it really shifted my thinking. I don’t bill for thinking in the shower but I do now charge my time more appropriately.

That’s also something I’ve slowly come to realize. 👏 Collaboration, breaks, and delaying work for background thinking time can all be beneficial. I call it “letting it cook”

I deducted time I spent peeing from billable hours 😅 literally hit a stopwatch every time I got up from my seat

I did the same until I was promoted and had a new supervisor who believed “meets expectations” is a quality review for good work. I responded by meeting expectations effort. I still scored meets expectations
