Once all the bills are paid for the week because we have certain bills due on certain weeks, then whatever extra money there is either goes into savings or get spent on things that either we need or want

Completely disagree. We both agree on a set amount of “fun money” that’s our allowance. Keeps us from swiping the card and using cash for small coffee purchasing. Keeps us accountable and both agreed upon it.

My husband would never dream of giving me an allowance. However as the person who leads our finances and our budget, he gives me cash every 2 weeks for the household and child things. I just prefer is that way. I get spending blindness and like the guardrails.

When you have a lot more income I agree with you, however when funds are limited and purchases make or break your budget you absolutely should agree on the amount of money you can both spend. It’s not about being treated like children it’s about financial responsibility of paying needs vs wants.

I see nothing wrong with that. If you are both in agreement on that it’s ok. Me however is terrible with money so I like the fact that he keeps me in check . If not we would be in trouble lol. However , when it comes to large purchases we do discuss it first. Works for us anyway
