@ross: Luke 4 … Jesus opened the scroll and opened the meaning of the scriptures. He taught in the synagogues of the Galilee. He expounded the scriptures on hillsides, where no building would be big enough to hold the people, and he taught in the Temple courts … But all that took place before this TikTok video came out to correct him.

The word kērussō (to preach, proclaim) is found throughout the New Testament, and it means a public proclamation of the gospel. This has nothing to do with Roman temple rites. • Did Paul sometimes use rhetoric? Yes—but he also says in 1 Cor. 2:1–5 that he didn’t rely on Greek wisdom or eloquence, but on the Spirit’s power.

I’m all for the house church movement, but the last one is debatable… the Jews had the synagogue, Jesus spoke in the synagogue. The early church met in homes at catacombs because of persecution. I prefer meeting in a home, but I don’t have a problem with the idea of a sanctuary, pagans might have done it, but so did the Jews. We might be better off in homes much of the time but I think sanctuaries have their place for larger corporate worship, cerimonies and s larger community.

Plus, modern churchianity patterns itself after the American corporate world: pastor = president; elders & deacons = board of directors; head elder = CEO; congregation = shareholders/customers. It’s all about control.

Both the Old and New Testament had places where people would go to listen to God’s laws. God build his house several times in the Old Testament, then the Synagogues, which is where in the New Testament, Jesus and the Apostles taught about God.

We can go to school and college and learn but when it comes to the word of God we should wing it. We are a body with different gifts to help the other body parts but we shouldn't get together to build and sharpen each other but have a cook out. The Bible teaches of the 7 churches but we should reject all of that. I think not, we meet at home and we will come together and bring all the gifts God has given us. I'm not going to stay nome and be limited to what God is offering me.
