@opinionsonus: If the Great Glen Fault hadn’t slipped. The Great Glen Fault is a major strike-slip fault that runs across the Scottish Highlands. The tectonic movement resulted weakened rock that was later easily carved by glaciers. The glaciers followed the fault line and carved the Great Glen Valley, in which, lies the famous Loch Ness. The large tectonic strike-slips occurred between the Devonian and Cenozoic periods, however, minor tremors do still occur. #ukhiddengems #Scotland #History #geology #map

y'all know those mountains technically are part of the Appalachian mountain range? or were. there's a huge range running up from the bottom of the Appalachians all the way under the ocean then to Scotland

its just a fault, it's not tectonic there. The tectonic plate split is the bit of Greenland that shares a geological history with Scotland/Ireland
