here's my take on it. throughout the movie we see Neiman constantly search for fletchers approval. and in the first practice with Neiman doing whiplash fletcher says "ill cue you in" seems pretty normal but it plays a part. as Neimans obsession grows so does his confidence starting to show signs of fletcher. the car crash scene plays a big part in showcasing the obsession peaking when Neiman tackles fletcher on stage. completely broken after losing what he loved most he wandered a bit but ended up exactly where he was always meant to be surrounded by music. in his encounter with fletcher he learns more about the motivation behind his teachers actions feeling regret for getting him fired. This Neiman and this fletcher both have nothing left to lose, so fletcher abandons one of the things held dearest to him, his reputation just for revenge. in the finale the thing Neiman abandons is the approval of fletcher which he had been desperate for throughout the movie. giving into his obsession completely he hijacks the band and plays caravan given how now pages were turned on his end we assume he had it memorized. as the first four minutes of the song end fletcher signals for the band to end the song but Andrew continues into the 5 minute solo showcasing his skills and dedication and earning fletchers approval in the process. when fletcher asks what hes doing andrew says "ill cue you" a parallel from the beginning of the movie the smile between the two at the end signifies 3 things: fletcher has found exactly what he wanted his "Charlie Parker", Neiman achieved what he wanted "to be one of the greats", and that although questionable fletchers methods do work.
