Although he made a few very good points his premise is off. Slavery was not a dying system and that’s why there was a civil war. Yes, the north moved to industrialization but the south had no intentions of ending slavery. Slavery gave the south an economic and political advantage the north couldn’t match. Slaves were counted as part of the population even though they could not vote which gave the south a political advantage when it came to presidential elections. This is why most of the first presidents of the US were southern. This is also the reason the electoral college was created. The 1/5 of a man rule was put in place to take away the south’s population advantage and when that didn’t work the country went to war. Slavery ended for political reasons not solely based on economics. What most people don’t know is that the Gov compromised with the south in the 13th amendment by saying anyone convicted of a crime became property of the state and could be forced back into involuntary servitude.

The sad part is that slavery was a blueprint to the events after up to what is occurring now. The housing, access to employment and the low unfair wages, education and discrimination/racism period.

I hear you, but we have all or nothing complex in this country. It’s either all this way, or all that. To say nothing happened because of moral reasons, there were white folks who killed & were killed fighting for black folks. That being said, capitalism is now on the brink of collapse.
