A friend of mine who grew up here and lived in the US for a long time too, told me Italy is 10 years behind the US in a lot of ways including girls girl culture 🥺

Tuscany…where I lived for 12 years…is probably worse than the north.

I always hear the girls in Italy are so harsh😭 I was just there and I dressed to my style. The looks I were getting really hurt my feelings lol

as an Italian I've experienced this my whole life 😭 I've always been considered "weird" for basically not being a mean girl

I feel that is the same concept in the states. If you went to a small town and dressed Miami. The same thing would happen.

I can relate, this happens in with some small town people everywhere though. I grew up on Long Island and lived in NYC. I always did my own thing in terms of thought, interest, music, and wear my hair naturally curly, but dressed the same and I am socially apt. I.e., pretty much fit the “mold”. In NY, I never got bullied. Then, I studied abroad with people who weren’t from NY but subarbs of other states and got bullied by cliquey girls for not being exactly like them. I was shocked, and couldn’t figure out why they didn’t like me. Recently, I worked out of state (with more people from high-end subarbs of other states) and kinda had the same experience. So weird. I don’t have a hard time making friends in NY, and me and my friends aren’t nonconformists or anything like that. There’s just something that these out of state small town people don’t like. I can’t even pin down what it is that makes them think I’m different. But either way it comes from their fear of discomfort, they don’t want to push themselves to introduce anything new into their lives. Their “mold” is much smaller.

I remeber the first time I went out with some girls from Buenos Aires Argentina (influenced by Italian culture fs), I wore a latina baddie outfit, small bandana crop top, and lots of makeup+ winged eyeliner. They were ALL dressed up exactly how you described and I felt so ridiculous! They even made a comment about them “not needing makeup” in front of me lol.

Unfortunaly this is true. Born and raised in northern Italy, and I always had problems with feeling part of the "group" here. If you are a little different you will never be fully acepted. The worst thing is that they have no shame.

Where do you live? I live in Bassano del grappa and when i go out in the evening I do see a lot girls dressing the same but I thought it was a teenager thing more than italian, i used to live in Germany and the girls there also have some dress code apart from berlin ofc then you see everything which is cool 👍🏻

had a similar experience in denmark, got invited to a birthday party shortly after moving there and didn’t catch up on the whole ”let’s all wear white” dresscode… ended up standing there dressed completely in black 😅 let’s just say the girlies did not invite me again 🫠

Grado? I loved it but even as an adult I could see how the young girls were typical mean girls with their stares. I stared back until I made them u uncomfortable 😂.

So...why not acknowledge that you missed the vibe and ask for their help in what to wear. Explain it's different all over the world. Sometimes being vulnerable helps the other girls feel less intimidated. You are very pretty and if you dressed flashy their reaction was just that...intimidated.
