@authormistywalker: I often pull from real life and put it in my books, making each one personal to me but I think I did this most effectively in this book. I’m very proud of Riot’s Thorn. It took a lot to get it right but I was determined to be patient and get it right. #reader #author #BookTok

I’m 16 and my therapist, both my parents, my older sister and I think I’m autistic but it’s like impossible to get tested once you’re older 5! Plus I’m a girl and “it’s more common in men so you probably don’t have it” it’s so annoying, I’m glad you were able to get her tested

Don't feel bad. It's known that girls are less likely to be diagnosed. Harder to diagnose if you want to say, because we are better at masking. I have a 19yr old daughter who has mentioned she may want to be evaluated bc she has similar characteristics as her little sister (11.5) who was diagnosed at 3/4yrs old.

Misty as always you bring us the best bad boys. I also appreciate you telling us a bit of your thought process with these men we fall for.

I wasn’t diagnosed with AuDHD until I was 34. All the things make more sense now. You’re an amazing mom for taking accountability.

Girl the way I related to Riot on the level of being misunderstood. I wasn’t diagnosed with autism until I was 18 going on 19 years old. I cried several times when reading Riot’s story. Just pure perfection. 💚

Don’t feel bad I wasn’t diagnosed with adhd until I was 16 and my school passed me to the next grade making straight d and f’s and I got grounded for 6 weeks every time I got my report card and when my mom would go to the school they would tell her I was fine and then when I got on meds in high school I started making a’s b’s so don’t you blame yourself your a good mom it’s ok

I absolutely loved ARC reading this book and just had to place an order because I 100% had to have a physical copy to add to the rest of both of your MC series on my shelf! 😍😍😍

Don’t feel bad my parents got me diagnosed and then said “we’ve dealt with it for this long we can do it ourselves now too”

Don't feel like a bad parent it happens more than you would think. My daughter was 12 when we took her to a specialist for behavior. Because her school and pediatrician said she was ADHD an for 5 years she was really sick where we were in an out of the hospital for years till we found out that we were pretty much poisoning our daughter because of a school and doctor. so I know where you are coming from .

I appreciate you sharing this. My parents knew there was something up with me and chose to ignore it. Now I have a small kid and I’m advocating for her so much.

Is it a myth that there are more common for males to have Autism then females so girls might fall through the cracks?

Girl, mine was 22. But she grew up in the late 90s early 2000s so autism wasn’t really known as much as it is today. The guilt and regret that I feel at how her life could look completely different if I had gotten her support when she was a kid.

My youngest was 18 before diagnosed. My oldest is autistic so we already lived in a household that was geared towards him so just went with it. I’m in my 40s & now realizing that I probably am.
