I don’t think the argument is that men wanna go get coffee. Men don’t wanna spend money on the first date spending money on a first date only to get to realize that you are not compatible is a waste of money. Most men have done it and it makes you feel used 😁

Coffee is just a spot that encourages conversation.. it used to be drinks... but that adds the element of alcohol. which can change the entire atmosphere. Coffee and Conversation is what he is offering... pick a nice spot and move forward.
