That’s the point of inclusive language though, right? If only gay people are saying it as a way to not out themselves….it kinda outs them, wouldn’t it? My sister is gay and after she came out and started a new job, she was talking to me about how nervous she was to refer to her wife or a partner because she’s in the south and it can be risky. But if more people said partner, then no one would be able to tell who’s gay if that person doesn’t want them to be able to tell. Also, I’m 30 years old…sometimes I don’t want to say boyfriend. I’m not in high school yanno lol

I remember the wave of trying to get more people to say “Partner” so that it stopped being a question period. You said yourself, the reason we say “Partner” is to *not* get questions. If we’re the only ones saying partner, we’re still signaling for them to ask questions.
