@yuanunpackschina: How would you feel if Amazon changed its name to… HappyShop? That’s basically what China’s JD.com is doing in Europe. Its new brand? 👉 Joybuy Sounds trustworthy? Or like a dropshipping site? 🇬🇧 British friends — what’s your first impression? 🇳🇱 🇩🇪 🇫🇷 Heard of Ochama? What if it becomes Joybuy too? Global branding isn’t easy. But it really matters. 💬 Comment below — I’ll be reading everything. #Joybuy #JDcom #GlobalBranding #ChinaEcommerce #UnpackingChina

I agree. I am in Austria and Joybuy sound fake. I wouldn’t trust it.

I am in the UK, I just heard it for the first time and searching it up, your video came up. I think you are right. I expected to see mixed reviews because I expected them to be a small contender stretched thin, and I got that from the name. it's too "humble"

I’m in the UK. JoyBuy automatically sounds cheap, low quality and suspicious. China has very high quality goods nowadays and needs to market that better. Made in China used to mean low quality 20 year ago, it doesn’t any more. Chinese companies not only beat other places on price but also quality. The brands Chinese companies chose should be better placed to emphasis that. Something like “Yellow river” for a transport/logistics company,

Branding is important but I think the offering matters way more. Like TikTok’s logo and colors look kinda odd and SHEIN’s name doesn’t even mean anything, but both still blew up because their offering was so strong. People just got used to the branding after

I wonder how marketing works in China. In the US I feel like companies spend most of their money on marketing(probably because everything else is outsourced to China)

No, Joybuy sends out all the wrong signals to a British person. Definitely not a wise rebranding exercise! ♥️

pretty sure that the only viable marketing option for chinese companies that want to get into western markets directly is to start with a 'cheap' sounding brand and build it up from there. thats what all the smartphone brands did. honor, oppo and even xiaomi started as cheap brands and have over time leveled up their image and products. well maybe not honor, that one is still not seen as quality

JoyBuy sounds like a pop up, here today gone tomorrow, kind of shop, not a serious business. It also sounds like an Ann Summers rival.

If Joybuy pays tax in the UK, I'll switch to it from Amazon! Please come up with a competitor for PayPal, too!

The West only cares about the bottom line, unfortunately. I myself don't care about a name all that much as long as I get a quality product

i can see why they chose joy buy. it's very bouncy and fun. I agree with comments that say it likely will not be received well by American audiences.

I didn’t realize Ochama or Joybuy was part of JD.com. I use Ochama and Joybuy for my Chinese groceries in the Netherlands.

It constantly buffles me how so many Chinese companies just make up whatever names, regardless of their meaning or, to be exact - a lack of one. Especially JD😂

I like the name JoyBuy. Having used them a few times I can say it’s been a very good experience so far. They could improve their customer service agents though

Normally the name would not get me hooked, but with impeccable records and explanation as you have said, I would try it. I personally like the JD.com
