@crazycatboy13: Connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and its comorbidities, are more common in trans people. They often affect someone’s mobility and may cause them to need a mobility aid (which is what I see most people online getting mad about). There are 13 types of Ehlers Danlos syndrome, and many other similar disorders that may be more common in trans people. Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) is one, and likely more connective tissue disorders, but there isn’t enough research to say for sure. Some examples of others are Marfan’s Syndrome, Loeys-Dietz Syndrome, and Osteogenesis Imperfecta. ID: “Research indicates that up to 17% of people with EDS identify as transgender or gender diverse, compared to about 1.3% in the general U.S. population.” Sources: PMID: 39850941, PMID: 37730651, PMID: 36600979, PMID: 40145613, PMID: 35211037, PMID: 35185636, 32770077, 29427119, 38799613, PMID: 39301475, 37504295 TRANSCRIPT: “**this is just one reason of many” “*As well as other disorders, especially connective tissue disorders. EDS is just a pretty common one” (when he said “Trans people are much more likely to have a genetic disorder called Ehlers danlos syndrome”) “*specifically more trans people” (correction for when neilan said “that might be why you’re seeing so many more people with disabilities recently)

I think the link between autism and neurodivergency and being transgender has a lot to do about being able to have more abstract perspectives about gender.

I wrote papers on this! a common theory is that autistic people often either don't understand or don't care to conform to made up constructs like gender! they're social cues and rules that we either don't naturally tend to follow not fit in, or don't feel obligated to! - an Autistic Nonbinary masters student

Also not to mention kids that are either queer, neroudivergent, poc, or disabled have a higher chance of facing adverse childhood events or trauma and that risk increases if someone falls into multiple of these categories and adverse childhood events or trauma can lead to the development of other physical, mental health problems, and can worsen already existing health problems

Also, a lot of us (disabled people) can’t do fun stuff like hiking, partying, concerts, driving, etc. sometimes “customizing our characters” is all we can do for joy

Autistic people, especially women, have a much higher testosterone level than neurotypical, which makes them more unsure about their gender. I'm a woman, but I often asked myself if I really wanna identify as a woman.

I think maybe the reason autistic people are more likely to be trans is because we are a lot more self aware in our bodies people think we are less aware but its actualy we might not know how to expess it or verbalise it we are more sensitive and aware of the World around us so it makes sense we are more likely to have the realisation of i feel this way in my body this is me feeling trans or nonbinary guys im not a profecinal im not giving facts just lived and learned experience

also, Punk/Alt communities are generally a lot more accepting of minorities, hence a lot of minorities having funky outfits, hair, piercings & tattoos ♥️

ooh, this is a great time to mention this, but theres a lot of other issues link to autism as well. (I apologize in advanced for not having sources but as an autistic person with these issues I did in fact look into it and i can get sources if needed!) anywhos, some other things linked is vision distortion-- like depth perception issues-- and hypermobility (in general, not just EDS specifically). I learned this because I've had dislocating joints for a while, but my doctors aren't very good with helping so I took it upon myself to research. I learned that while hypermobility can leave you flexible, it can also be more joint affected, where you're not as flexible but your joints are loose (which is what I've got, but I'm still working on diagnosis). I also learned about the vision distortion because I was trying to learn how to drive a car but really struggling, so my doctors looked into it with me to see if it was maybe a neurological thing, and it was! I lack depth perception, making it harder to follow lines on road, keep proper distance from cars and objects in every day life, and even affects how you see sizes in certain contexts. for instance I've always struggled with perspective and keeping my writing the same sizes, and thats because of it! theres honestly a lot that autism affects, and its quite interesting when digging deeper, because theres lots of stuff that could be researched!

I'm trans and autistic and recently learned about ehlers danlos and it would for real explain every health problem I've ever had. I have zero confidence I would ever be able to get a doc to consider it though 😭

i wish more research could be done on comorbid conditions with gender dysphoria. in my personal opinion gender dysphoria causes autism/comes first and how that affects you presents as autisn

I don’t think autistic people are more likely to *be* trans I just think they’re more likely to do something about it and less likely to be stealth. We’re less encumbered by social expectation.
