@b737typerating: WHY ARE SOME AIRCRAFT SWITCHES RED?! 🔴❌✈️ Red switches are also known as ‘guarded switches’, which are switches for safety critical functions. Usually, once used it cannot be reversed until back on the ground. It’s important that pilots don’t accidentally use these, so they are red to draw our attention. The red part is a ‘guard’ - you have to lift it up to reveal the switch underneath, making it difficult to use by accident. Some also have small copper wire attached too, which the pilots have to break in order to use the switch. This again reduces accidental activation, but also reminds the crew that they are completing an important action. These switches are only ever used in a non-normal situation when guided to by a checklist. 👍🏻✈️ #b737 #737 #aviation #flying #typerating This account has been made to make aviation knowledge more accessible.
