"You can't improve what you don't measure." With that quote, testing or documenting your training will help you improve. You'll find what does work! Maybe more importantly, you find what doesn't. There's a story about a former world record holder in the 100m. His coach claimed he was allergic to weights. Every time he lifted, the athletes times and performance numbers went down. When they took the weights out and focused more on plyos, times and performance numbers went up! The key here is without testing/ measureing, that athlete may have went his whole career doing the wrong training. Never breaking the world record. Wild to think about. What i like to do with my training plans are test/measure mouthly and daily. We use a monthly testing protocal. And a daily journal to track progress or improvement. So you can use ours written into our training programs at Team-Hoot.com or make your own! Either way, what you measure, you improve! #polevault #training ##trackandfield #polevaulter #workout
"What can I do to help with pole vault even if I don't have a pit?" I've been getting asked this a lot lately and here's what I suggest. --- Work on getting faster! I put a quote in my book by Peter McGinnes who is the USATF Biomechanist for pole vault. He said, "Not all fast pole vaulters are elite, but all elite pole vaultets are fast." --- Speed is the most important aspect of or sport. The faster you are the easier the sport becomes! Think short speed to work on accelerations like 4x20m, 4x30m, and 4x40m. Down the road we can work on top end speed. -- So get out there and work on your speed. If you need some help, I've got your back. --- Over at Team-Hoot.com I've got 3-month pole vault training plans designed to make you FAST. --- My favorite response from a vault coach was "Shawn, your program worked great! The problem is the sprint coach is stealing all my vaultets for the short sprints and now all our poles are too small." --- Shameless Plug: If you're also looking for a better understanding of the event and pick up some home pole vault drills you can pick up my book "The Pole Vault Toolbox over at Team-Hoot.com too. --- Hope this helps! Just keep working on your speed and you'll be crushing PRs in no time! --- Bonus question: What's your favorite speed work out? Let me know in the comments! --- #teamhoot #polevault #trackandfield #vault #vaulter #polevaulter #vaulting
