Glycerol is no longer a banned substance! 🥳 WADA kind of had to remove it from their banned substance list at least partly because glycerol (AKA glycerin) is so commonly used in food production. It’s used for a few things in food, commonly as a sweetener, a humectant (to retain moisture in the food), and as a thickening agent. Glycerol can even also act as a preservative. So its generally pretty safe to consume. When you combine it with sodium and mix it in water for your pre-event hydration or post event rehydration, you can massively increase the amount of fluid that is effectively retained. Chemically, glycerol is a sugar alcohol, so there is a risk of gut upset, so whatever you do, be sure to trial this in a non-competition based setting first! I’m not going to recommend specific doses here because: The math of how much glycerol/sodium/water to mix up and how quickly when to consume it is easy to stuff up It might not be necessary or applicable to everyone Doses change based on the circumstance you’re using it (ie ‘pre’ vs ‘re’ hydration) I’d implement and individualised trial protocol to assess for and avoid gut issues BUT - if you’re someone who’s interested in the potential for glycerol to maximise performance or how it might fit into a plan for you, comment ‘WADA’ and we can work out a protocol ;) #supplements #nutrition #hydration #sport #WADA #bannedsubstance #Fitness #nutritionist #nutrients #dehydration #electrolytes #sportsnutrition #dieititiansofinstagram #dietitian #supplement #research #foodvssupplements #glycerol #marathon #watercut #boxing #mma #triathalon #endurance #cycling #ultramarathon
