@heart_transplant_doc: When people hear “heart failure,” they often think it means the heart has stopped. In reality, it means the heart is struggling to keep up with the body’s needs — but how it’s failing can be very different. Here are the 3 main types your doctor may never have explained ⬇️ ⚡ HFrEF – “weak pump” • Ejection fraction (EF) <40% • The heart muscle has lost strength and can’t squeeze enough blood out with each beat. • Common causes: heart attack damage, long-term uncontrolled high blood pressure, certain viruses or toxins. ⚡ HFpEF – “stiff pump” • EF looks normal (≥50%), but the heart muscle is stiff. • It can’t relax properly, so it doesn’t fill with enough blood between beats. • Often linked to high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, or aging. ⚡ HFmrEF – “the gray zone” • EF between 41–49% — not fully weak, not fully normal. • Sometimes this is a stage on the way to improvement… or to worsening. 💡 Symptoms can be the same for all types: • Shortness of breath (especially lying down or with activity) • Swelling in the legs or belly • Rapid weight gain from fluid • Fatigue or dizziness But the treatments are different — some medicines work wonders for weak hearts but not stiff ones, and vice versa.

My EF was 22 after damage from chemo for TNBC. Undiagnosed for 6 years. I was never sent for an echo post chemo. I pushed for a cardio referral for 2 years. Just received a CRTD device. LBBB gone, huge improvement.

HFrEF here, thankfully I was able to recover my ejection back up to 46% now. My yearly echo is next month, hoping it’s even higher! Mine was PVC induced. 2 cardiac ablations.

I have peripartum cardiomyopathy. My EF was 30% at the time of diagnosis. Last echo it was up at 50% and we are working at it to get it to 60%. Definitely never understood heart failure until it happened to me.

sporadic ejection fraction. it's down and it's up and it's back down again. it's been 5 years no primary diagnosis other than cardiomyopathy unknown. do you have any ideas?

I feel like HFpEF is so under diagnosed. People see a normal EF and then blame the symptoms on another etiology. We all need to read the FULL echo, dilated heart and diastolic dysfunction isn’t normal

Tell people about the TTN mutation. My husband was perfectly healthy and went into congestive heart failure. Thank goodness he had great doctors, takes the 4 pillars, and is doing awesome!

My EF is very low. One side of my family has a genetic mutation that’s caused different cardiac conditions.
