place a Rubbermaid bin above the stove. just in case the microwave is too heavy or gets stuck so it can rest on the bin. its also a good way to help mount it if your doing it yourself

the back panel near the bottom is typically a pivot point, so it may need to rotate toward you before you can remove it. you may need to slightly lift the microwave up and off this panel once it's pivoted down. also, if there is a range below the microwave you may want to slide the range forward and out of the way in the event the microwave falls. that way you're not left with 2 broken appliances.
