The discount doesn’t attract wealthy customers. The discount attracts the customer who considers the brand financially out of reach. That being said, this demographic is huge!

Thank you so much for this! I'm curious, how do you maintain consistency in your tone when you're trying to appeal to more than one audience? Say in this case you're trying to sell to both wealthy and aspirational wealthy? Is it possible to do both simultaneously or do you inevitably have to make a choice?

I used to think at the start that all people want to only buy if there's a discount but have now found that isnt the case at all. Sometimes customers will even pay shipping 3 separate times just to get the rare product before another person. discounts really don't do much at all other than set the expectation.

When I started my Brand I always knew I wanted old money customers and that is how I created my collections … the problem was: reaching those customers! Unfortunately I will have to close my e-commerce and sell to agents/boutiques 🥺

Not discounts, but Premium service. A sales who understands who I am (but most do) and enjoys giving the attention I (my family) need. Example: Went to the BMW to buy a new large SUV (X6), but because the sales took the time to understand what we liked more, I also bought a 4 convertible and another sports car convertible. At the end of the day I bought over 400k on cars instead of the only 160k.
