If they got married right after high school, and she started college/career with his last name then all her friends and colleagues know her by that name. Would be confusing to go back to old name

When I left my ex husband I kept the last name until I remarried because changing your name is SUCH a hassle and I’ve got other things going on in my life that take priority than running around to the social security office and dmv.

It bothers her because she is insecure and wants full ownership . Maybe she likes the last name but maybe she doesn’t want to change for document reasons . Like if I got divorced I would 💯 keep my husbands last name because his last name is my name and it’s my identity now . Tell the girl to live her life and not be bothered

My moms mom divorced my grandpa, gave up the kids. Kept the last name AND THEN gave it to her other kids from other relationships. So. Weird.

Let me say that if my husband and I ever separate (god forbid), I am keeping this last name. We don’t have kids, but the hassle of changing it back would be so annoying to me. ALL BANKS AND LEGAL DOCS? No fucking way, & it’s the name on my college degrees? I will be known by this name for the rest of my life.

as someone who fits this scenario and the new gf was livid, it takes way too much effort to change it. if he cheated on me or something I would have changed it out of hatred but the split was pretty civil, no hard feelings, I kept it for 5 years until my current marriage.

It is suuuuuch a mess changing your name on everything. Getting new cards for your bank, changing name on lease or mortgage, all bills, changing work email addresses, literally everything with your name on it has to change. Why bother, until you have to. Too much work.

My mom did the same thing, she kept my dad’s last name after divorce. Got remarried 20 years later, got divorced AGAIN and voluntarily went back to my dads last name 😅😂

She cheated on him, not the other way around. She definitelyyy doesn’t care to keep his last name bc she was the one in the wrong. Guarantee if HE cheated she’d be changing it

It’s easier to keep the married name rather than go through all the paperwork. Plus if they get established in a certain profession, their married last name is on everything. It’s just easier to keep it.
