my father was in the military and then an armed security guard for years. When I was about 10, so 1992, he wanted to go into law enforcement. My mother freaked out. I remember the argument. She didn't want him to go into law enforcement, not because of the danger involved but because the way cops view the world. She didn't want her kind, gentle and empathetic husband to lose himself in a culture of violence. That was over 30 years ago and policing has not changed. If anything, it's gotten worse

we need community protection, crime prevention, and vigilance through active partipation in our communities. the job of policing has become about $ with ticket quotas and racism that had us focusing on black and brown people.

Every area in every state/county is different; there needs to be more education and training to become a cop AND more education and training to remain a cop. Hair dressers have to do more training than cops.

It’s also socioeconomics- disinfranchised and redlined communities have more desperation, more crime. And it’s lucrative to police that. micro and macro. Black/Latino comunities, reservations etc.

this is so well put. I knew a rookie cop who lived in the community and thought he was cool. within 3 years he seemingly hated the entire city and had moved to the country
