I was told to give it to my adhd child by his paediatrician to get him to sleep after being medicated. His brain doesn't switch off until after 11pm without it. I've been using magnesium as a substitute. Not as strong, obviously but is gentle enough to relax his body before bed.

any other mums of ND kids absolutely cackling at the prospect of spending $$$$ for some to say change their diet when they have 9 safe foods and diet change would cause them to starve

Yes my daughter has adhd and just struggles to calm down and relax her mind before bed but to be honest I don’t really like melatonin I just didn’t know what else to help as she was going to bed late and being tired at school etc but if there is an alternative would be great!

My kids don’t sleep… and I don’t give them melatonin … my friends give it to their children and I hide my judgement. Kids don’t sleep haha. Some obviously cases may be different. Also do you think this has anything to do with elderberry toxins?

12 years it took 4-5 hours to get my child to sleep. He’s ND, OCD, ARFID, can’t take tablets, and flavored liquids, but 1 gummy we found he could eat and boom asleep in 30 mins. I will fly to the US and bring it back if I have too.

My gp said short term might be okay but long term she said we don't know what it would be doing to the children.

I understand sooo many families struggle & Im not taking away that its hard. Every situation is different. I remember sitting at a birthday party and i was so taken back that nearly every parent had their child on melatonin. My children are adhd and audhd & live 50/50 custody. For ages I was struggling to get them to sleep out of nowhere and the other house was telling me that they are asleep by 6pm in their house and have no issues. I felt like I was going insane. I later find out they were having melatonin in that household so they were losing their ability to naturally produce their own melatonin when they weren't having it with me. When it all stopped and we went back to making sure they get to burn their energy right before bed, they went to sleep. Calm environment etc doesn't always work for energetic kids to sleep. We jump on the trampoline & tackle and pretty much wear them out until they drop. We need music or guided meditations with talking in them to help zone out from the racing thoughts.
