My favorite bagel shop in NY has zero organization or line, takes cash only but doesn't tell you until you get barked at by the cashier, and every single person who works there acts like you just shit in their cereal by simply showing up that morning. Food is 15/10, and it's packed every time

That holds true everywhere. If it's bombed out and you can't even tell from the outside that it's a restaurant, the food is absolutely gonna be the best thing you've ever eaten.

I dont trust a Mexican restaurant in CA if its not near a strip club, tattoo shop, & I dont see blue color workers there 24/7 or its just a tent on a street corner run out of a panel van with at least 2 working girls within site. I always find the best food in sketchy neighborhoods & outcast businesses. If the signs aren't at least 30% hand written, & I walk in as a yt girl & get dirty looks I don't want it.

The building's aging shows how long they've been able to survive in nyc. Never profitable enough to repair ceiling tiles or the large crack in their front window, but enough to survive. That & the 30 yr caked on cooking oil on every pot/pan is aged like fine wine 😉

Restaurant needs 3 things; 1) wood paneling that’s been on the walls since 1972, 2) a white analog clock on the wall, 3) linoleum tiles that end in a lightning shaped crack across the floor, giving way to bare stained concrete. 15/10 food every time

Went to a chinese place in Capitol Hill that had a D rating and it was the best. Ngl though I was scared af for the next 3 days 😅 I was waiting for the food poisoning to hit but I survived 😂

In New Orleans, I ordered food from a gyro place that literally had a busted out window. Best gyro I ever had and honestly better than most of the other food I had while I was there 😭

funnily enough that's my metric for Chinese restaurants too. A? probably decent, probably very Americanized. B? what are they doing for that score, avoid it. C? instant win, mix of authentic and Americanized, you will be ordering from and paying the owners children if you're there outside school hours, the menu will have extremely discolored pictures of their dishes, there will be 3 tables max inside
