I'm convinced with health stuff, people focus on a single word in the story & run with that. like, he heard finger & ignored the rest. I've had it happen a lot with a specific story of when I nearly died (literally coded in the ER) from a cold that turned into croup at 29yrs old. the number of people who hear "cold" & just say things like "oh ya, I just got over a cold. so rough" is wild. sometimes I want to scream "BUT DID YOU DIE?!?!" cause what?

I'm an amputee after a car accident and 3 reconstructive surgeries before the amputation. The amount of people who have compared wearing a prosthetic leg and being an amputee to 1) knee pain, 2) foot pain, or 3) common injuries like an ACL tear or meniscus surgery is INSANE. Also the audacity of people asking in the most unkind ways is annoying AF. And then there's the people who thank me for my service and shake my hand until I tell them I wasn't in the military and it was a car accident...and they just walk away from me like I did something wrong. PS - Im so sorry you have to go through this!! I'm sure the pain has been awful 😭

Anytime I’ve injured a finger (sprains not anything near as bad as yours) I usually make up crazy stories when people ask what happened like “I was saving a baby from a fire” so maybeee he thought you were doing the same? 😂

I’m loling bc I severed my nerve and half my tendon in one of my fingers on broken glass and people would always be like “wow I bet that hurt!” And my fav thing to say was “the funny thing about nerves is when you cut them in half they don’t actually work anymore so I actually feel nothing” and they would all just look at me like😟

I had to wear an eye bandage for a while at work and almost every customer would ask about it. started giving different random answers to each person to see how far I could go before the lies got too unbelievable.

This was back in 2020 when I was recovering from my spinal fusion I couldn’t do much other than rest and occasionally walk, I was a freshman (online classes at the time obviously) and my culinary teacher had the audacity to be like “I’ve had back pain before and still cook. You can do your assignments just fine.” Ma’am, I’m recovering from surgery ON MY SPINE. No I cannot cook??? I looked at her like:
