How about when you’re invited somewhere you always bring something - food - wine- gift .. anything. We were taught to never go empty handed ( raised Italian old school )

Another common one that we hear in the south is saying “do what?” Instead of “huh” or “what”

I wasn’t allowed to answer with “what” either. It’s still a bit shocking or at least noticeable when I hear others use it

Possibly unpopular opinion: I hate receiving thank you cards. I read it and it goes in the trash. I appreciate it but I would prefer a quick text or email. I’m 44. Not sure if it’s my age or what and it does feel weird to hate it but it is what it is.

Thank you notes is big for me. A short text “thanks” is surprisingly the new norm 😐. My mom insisted a note to be sent

Elbows off the table, put your napkin in your lap as soon as you sit down and silverware positioned at 4 o’clock when you are finished.

This is so interesting because in southern european / middle eastern etiquette the host is the one who must wait for the guest to begin eating

I agree with all of this! Not saying “what” or “huh” was engrained in me as well.

Growing up in Spain we as kids weren’t allowed to leave to table until the oldest person sitting was done eating ( my grandpa ) living in the US I always see kids running around and going to play whenever 😳

I’m a huge thank you note person. My MIL is offended by my thank yous, she thinks that that is too formal for a DIL/MIL. I don’t think it is! Meanwhile, my nephews (her grandsons) have never sent a thank you in their lives and it drives me nuts. I don’t need a formal thank you from them but I should get a call saying “auntie, I love your gift!”

Insight on etiquette when people asks you how much something costs or an invasive financial question. I feel its so rude to ask someone “how much” - just screams low class

👏👏 Yes! On the thank you notes! Why do people not do this anymore? I make my girls write them and hopefully they will appreciate it when they get older

Love this! I sent out handwritten thank you notes after my wedding and so many people were shocked by it saying they didn’t realize people did that anymore. It’s so rude to fathom not doing it!

Another one is, everyone stays at the table until the last person is done eating. The server is not to clear any dishes until everyone is finished. Etiquette is to make everyone comfortable eating with you.

The most important etiquette rule I’ve ever learned is to do everything to make your guests feel comfortable, welcomed and loved. Cover for them if they make some social faux pas. Example: If someone starts to eat before the hosts start, the host should jump in as quickly as possible to start eating to save the guest from embarrassment.
