You wait until the water is frozen before adding coins. Then you can tell how well your freezer food holds up if power loss. If the quarter sinks, your food is likely spoiled.

I haven’t lived in a hurricane state for long, but all of this seems wrong. You fill the tub up with water that way you can use it if you lose water and electricity. If you leave the house you put a cup of frozen water in the freezer and put a penny on top. When you come back the location of the penny will tell you if you lost power and for how long

Uhhh… we had a super typhoon and didn’t do any of this 🤣. Filled the tub for extra cooking water or to use in the toilet tanks, put the flashlights in a place that all could access, had our lantern and went to bed…in our beds.

been thru at least a dozen hurricanes....you get gas, generator prepped, water, non refrigerated food, lanterns and flashlights, fill the tub with water to flush the toilets with...not sure what you did here
