@yourpianobestie: Read below 👇 1. I almost quit piano entirely after college because an incredibly close teacher told me that I wasn't good enough to be a concert pianist, and that not everyone is meant to be a "successful" musician. It really hurt for a very long time and is definitely something I still think about, but the experience taught me that there isn't a "one size fits all" measurement of success and it's okay to define success on my own terms. 2. For a short period of time, I had a borderline abusive piano teacher as a kid that has shaped the way that I approach teaching. I have never forgotten how it feels to be on the receiving end of that experience, and I try my best to be the exact opposite. 3. I'm still working on being more confident in how I personally interpret music, which comes from years of hyperperfectionist training. As I mature musically, I realize that it's okay to trust my own judgement and instincts. 4. My biggest musical insecurity is my sight reading and it hasn't been until recently that I've become more comfortable in making mistakes, and this shift in mindset has drastically improved my sight reading overall. 5. I’ve lost just as many competitions as I’ve won, if not more. I learned that achievement never comes without failure, and failure is a part of growth. Every loss has taught me valuable lessons and pushed me to keep going, even when the road gets tough. #piano #pianolessons

some parents have a similar approach. one b+ on a report card and the poor kid is getting screamed at "DO YOU WANT TO BE A FAILURE?!?!?", instills fear early. some, like the accoubt creator, can find resolution in the future, a distant chord coming to conclusion.

The world is saturated with concert pianists. What it needs is people who enjoy where they are and can hold inspiration to be better than they are today. Music was never meant to be a whip. It was only intended to inspire emotions. Music can bring people together. Competition tears
