This needs to be framed as an argument against location, not solar panels. We desperately need solar energy, but w have to be smart about it. Buildings and parking lots would make a lot more sense than farm land.

I’m definitely on the side of advocating for the environment BUT, as someone who works in the renewable energy space I will offer this perspective. Our grid cannot handle the current demand that is a known fact. The solutions are renewable energy (usually solar) or some sort of combustion, coal, oil etc. solar is definitely the less harmful solution

Solar farms are not incompatible with the environment. Do a little reading on solar farm grasslands. Greater biodiversity, more primary productivity, better resilience to drought

All this for them to abandon them after 20 years because the price of parts, maintenance, and updates is far more than what they’re worth. So companies push to create solar farms, cash in on grants and handouts from the government. Then abandon the sites once it’s too much money to update and maintain. It’s sad. The rich will destroy the land, environment, and soil all for extra $$$ for a few years before dumping the land once it’s no longer profitable.

Agrivoltaics is actually pretty cool and I wish people were more open to the idea. Lots of papers on the benefits to restoring damaged pasture, providing shade to animals etc
