Happy Friday my friends! ***SAVE THIS*** mini tutorial for future reference. In this video, I share what paintbrushes I use to create smooth shadow transitions and skin tones. THE PROCESS: - I like creating a base layer for the skin using a large round soft nylon paintbrush and a light grey charcoal (I use Jakar assorted grey compressed charcoal). - I then create a second layer using a darker shade of grey charcoal and a slightly smaller nylon paintbrush, only this time, the ends are trimmed off and one side is cut to be slightly tapered (I learned this tip from the amazing Kelvin Okafor). The reason for trimming the paintbrush, is to make the brush a bit firmer, which then allows the charcoal to stick better to the paper. - Next, I use a small round hog hair brush to blend out the line of the sweater collar. - I then build up the sweater shadow using black charcoal powder and a small filbert hog hair paintbrush. - I further smooth the shadow transition and skin tone with a medium size round hog hair paintbrush. - I then use a black charcoal pencil to darken the shadow of the hair - Then I smoothen the shadow using a smaller round nylon paintbrush with the ends cut and tapered. - Lastly, I take the medium size round hog hair paintbrush and further smooth of the skin and shadow. Paper used: Strathmore 300 series Bristol Vellum #artvideo #fypart #creatingart #drawingtimelapse #portraitartist #shadingtutorial #drawingportraits #drawingskin #artisttips #arttutorial #charcoalportrait #howtodraw #howtoshade #charcoalart #charcoalartist #paintbrushes #canadianartist #realismart #realisticarts #drawings #pencilsketch #instaart #artistsoninstagram #portraitart #drawingportrait #drawingeyes #pencilartworks #pencilartist #luvlee_art #portraitdrawings
