My mother (an elder law attourney) did adult adoptions for older gay couples all the time. When Obergefell passed I remember her saying “THANK GOODNESS! My job just got easier!” Recently, however she has reverted in some cases back to adult adoptions, even with Advanced Healthcare Directives (Living Wills), she wants to ensure the documentation for her clients wishes are ironclad, just in case…which is concerning

My great grandad (who grew up during the war) had a best friend that lived in secret with his husband for many years. My grandad & great nan know of course but it was a very under wraps thing even after it became legal. (I got the story atleast second hand) But when one of them past, due to not being legally recognised, the family of the deceased took everything from the house to every possession and it quite literally killed his husband, he literally died of a broken heart with nothing from what I remember of the story.

I wonder if Maxene would have identified as pansexual had she been given the opportunity? I have a similar experience. First long term relationship was with a man, currently married to a trans woman. If anything happened to her and I did feel the pull to date again, I wouldn't have a problem going in either direction.
