Awesome post from TFC Foot Nerd @wlkbrft🦶💚 👣 Cushion and comfort makes it harder to find stability and balance ⚖️ Today lots of people wear highly cushioned shoes like Hoka and Happy Flops daily.. Here are some of the side effects: 💥 Not design for the job - These maximalitic shoes put load on parts of our body that aren’t design to do the job. For a longer period of use this may lead to injury in not only the foot, but also the ankle, knee, hips or back. 💥 More impact - Our cushioned shoes let us land harder on our heel, instead of controlling the impact better. 💥 Detrimental effects on foot muscle strength and arch integrity - Many of us fall inwards in the shoes (excessive pronation). This may lead to problems and injuries, like ankle sprain and hallux valgus. 💥 Less stability and balance - As the sole of our feet, with muscles, tendons and hundreds of nerves endings, are placed further from the ground. 💥 Less stimulation of the nerves - We have over 200 000 nerve endings in each foot. Stimulatibg these can effect our brain, balance, reduce pain etc. A great way to stimulate the nerve endings is walking on different surface with no or just a thin sole. 💥 Decreased force - Less efficiently force is transferred between the the big toe, which plays a major role during walking and running. 💥 Gradual loss of fat pad tissue - Leading to pain, inflammation and micro-tears. If you are going to change your footwear, make sure that the transition is controlled👟 The foot will need time to do the required adjustments and strengthen. #podiatry #barefootshoes #injuryfree #anklesprain #balancetraining
