The issue with a LOT of media criticism (not just Vivziepop's stuff) is that people don't understand that just because you don't like something doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad. For example, a LOT of people criticize the show for not really focusing on I.M.P. being assassins and instead focusing more on the relationship drama between Blitzo and Stolas. And if you don't like that, that's fine, it's a perfectly valid opinion to have, but that's purely a matter of taste. There are a LOT of people (myself included) who feel the exact OPPOSITE way about Helluva Boss and actually PREFER the focus on the relationship stuff over the assassin stuff. It's a matter of taste and if you don't like the direction a show has gone in, that's fine, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Focusing on the Blitzo/Stolas relationship is a perfectly valid creative decision. Media is an inherently subjective thing. If you don't like something, you need to actually interrogate your own feelings on the subject and ask WHY you don't like it. But most people don't do that, they just think "I don't like this thing, therefore it's bad."

And she IS a good writer. That doesn't mean that everything she writes is perfect because literally nothing is perfect, that doesn't exist. People act like it's a crime to say you like her, her writing, or her shows. These haters are immature kids or just ignorant people 🤷🏻♀️

They did similar to Rebecca Sugar too. Dug up old art to make it okay to hate her. Nit pick her show to death. Bully her off social media. So, for me atp they're doing it out of spite and I can't be bothered to care. I've seen this once before and it was ridiculous then and it's ridiculous now. I do appreciate genuine conversation though! Especially when folks talk about what they would have done. That makes it a fun way to critique without being hateful or too serious imo.

The amount of unneeded hate toward Vivian Medrano is simply exhausting. Putting aside the fact I am a fan of the Helluverse, I can easily say it is not perfect — most art isn’t — but it is absolutely not the worst-written thing in the world. People need to chill.

I love how if anyone dares to talk about Helluva/Hazbin and its characters as they’re written and discuss it, theories about it or its character arcs without adding some disclaimer about ‘oh btw Viv is SUCH a trash writer btw! She’s the absolute worst’, ppl just automatically assume that we’re all worshipping the ground she walks on. Meanwhile legit no other show, even ones that have far worse writers, is treated like this!

I think Internet critic culture has warped people’s view on what “good” writing is. People expect every single piece of media to have a perfectly logical world where everything is explained in perfect detail, every little thing is important, etc and it leaves zero room for emotionally driven storytelling. A story doesn’t need to be air tight in its logic world building to still be an enjoyable experience. Some things, especially musicals, are meant to be a carried by how the characters feel and the point is to follow them on that journey. I think people need to learn to simply enjoy media (other people’s creations) instead of seeing them as things to pick apart so they can feel like the smartest person in the room.

Call me crazy, but I couldn’t imagine trying to fit all that I possibly could of a piece of work that I put my time, my heart, and soul into, into an 8 episode season with no promise (at the time) of a second season to elaborate on the first and continue the story. Yes there are creators that have done it “better” with the same amount of time, but she’s not them, and obviously the writing was good enough because the show got approved for 3 more seasons. I need people to be so fucking for real! When I don’t like something, I don’t watch it and it is 100% possible to keep it off all of your FYP‘s.

I said the same thing on another video Maddie posted, I did some mild analysis about Angel Dust as a character, and got this bizarre reply from someone ranting about Viviziepop and her writing (and something unrelated about Alastor?) when I never said anything about her, I was trying to discuss Angel’s storyline. It’s like you said, we can’t even discuss the shows from a neutral standpoint without someone bringing her up unprompted.

Honestly people acting like a piece of media has to be good, to be enjoyed. Fucking homestuck exists ——arguably one of the messiest confusing piece of media ever created ——but it’s FUN. Isn’t Hazbin hotel and helluva boss allowed to be fun and just exist as a piece of media that invokes interest and not necessarily be the peak of cinema ??

I stopped listening once someone told me she wrote a comic where a minor and adult character slept with each other, then I looked at the comic they cited and a) neither character was underage- the FIRST page listed their ages as 21 and 19- and B) they didn't even sleep with each other
