If they ask you a question you don’t know the answer to, say “I don’t know the answer to that right now but if you give me the opportunity, I’d love to go home and research it and email you with the answer.” And then actually do it, with evidence based references. Good luck!!

Write down 10-15 crazy ICU scenarios that you’ve dealt with. When you get asked a question you can pull one of those out and apply it in some way!

Be authentic! If you don’t know an answer, don’t BS it but know how to find the answer. They want to know how you will handle the pressure of school (how you self regulate) and if you have a good support system. Just a few things I remember from my interview. Good luck sis, you got this!

I read some recently published articles on the AACN site and the topic of one of them actually helped me answer an interview question! I was like “I actually read a recent study about this” 😉

Be humble and be 100% yourself. I didn't know the answers to everything they asked but I was honest and I got back to them over email to answer questions I didn't know and cited sources and I got in. They really apprec. me being honest about my weaknesses as well

Know your failure in life and how you’ve over come it. (A NON nursing failure) this was the hardest part of my interview. They know that we are the top 10% who rarely make mistakes and fail in life. But they want to see you acknowledge your defeat and how you reflected on it.

I was asked “what have you accomplished in the last year that you are the most proud of and why?” And that one stuck with me.

Don’t give generic answers give ones specific to you and only you with the EI questions. Everyone gives a generic story about advocating for a hypotensive patient in the ICU talk about how you advocated outside the ICU and how advocating isn’t only in an ICU.

Look up if there are any law/policy changes happening in your school’s state. I asked about OH house bill 52, and if it is affecting how they are teaching their seniors. They were really impressed I took the time to look into different laws and policies of the state I would begin my practice in.

If it’s emotional intelligence based make sure you have a really good why. If it’s clinical based I’d know med math, that tripped me up 😭 also sound confident, but know when you don’t know something and be humble enough to admit. Good luck!!

Most of the time they are evaluating how you answer the questions. Do you show confidence, humility, and assertiveness. All of this are qualities you will

Pretty much everyone’s resume will look the exact same. So do things to stand out, like volunteer work, etc. Not a huge tip, but something different from all the other comments. Good luck :)

Be teachable, if you dont know something then admit it but then give it your best shot and say you’ll research it after the interview

Look up their mission statement so if they ask “why this school?” You have an answer. Be prepared to talk about “negative” things about yourself— ex: name weaknesses, tell me about a time you had conflict & how was it resolved, tell me about an ethical dilemma

I got a bunch on my page haha but best recommendation, probably to have a story and know it well. They’re gonna ask you about things you should already know. Whatever is on your resume is fair game, but remember you can actually guide the next question with every answer you give. Be strategic in that way.
