@the.echo.of.black: New Jersey was the last northern state to end slavery—1866, a full year after the Civil War. Black children were reclassified as “apprentices” and forced to keep working for white families until adulthood. (Source: NJ Historical Society). 👉 Do you believe that was freedom—or slavery in disguise? #NewarkTruth #HiddenHistory #SystemicRacism #ForgottenVoices #ReparationsNow

Exactly. My great, great grandmother use to talk about her being a slave in Bergen County all the time. My uncle and my mother kept us up with our family history. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

There's so much I don't know, grateful for sites like this one. Let the truth be known bc they're still actively trying to hide and rewrite history to this day.

I already knew this and im was born and raised in Jersey. I still live there and certain parts Jersey is still very racist and have sun downtowns. Being educated here you will get the respect from certain people however others look at you with hate, my a social worker so I see it everyday. Im from north Jersey but live in Central Jersey and its very different. I love being a social worker but people here pretend there aren't certain issues.

We are still in a form of slavery. They just rebranded the bondage by giving us money to do all there hard labor. People don’t think that we are in a country that uses modern day slavery.

Critically Engaged :
Rebranding slavery taught them how to rebrand segregation, low wages, poor education, and even Christianity. Everything they did was to serve the wealthy and the nation instead of the poor, the enslaved, or the citizenry.
