@cjwhitt77: #autism #autismawareness #autismmom Autistic people are not inherently aggressive, but autism can come with aggressive behavior and as kids get older it is a bigger issue.
Early puberty made my son aggressive af. He’s almost 18 now and it’s leveled off. How old is she?

Non verbal highly impulse and aggressive Autistic child. Thanks to a lot of hard work of her family and her amazing school it took me 3 years to fight for. More verbal no aggression! I walked your journey and sending you all the love!!!

Occupational therapy is your friend. My autistic child used to have some epic meltdowns. Those are so much milder now thanks to our lovely OT. Aggressive behaviors can be redirected & the younger you can work on it, the better.

Absolutely absolutely thank you for saying this my brother who was nonverbal and had physical aggression issues against himself does not compare to a 35-year-old who figured out he was the weird kid because of autism. The spectrum isn’t a license to be a jerk.

Yes you will get through this all of you. Special Ed schools can be a great thing Derek went to one until he was 10.

I believe the fear of the word “cure” is because we all know this will not be a single source situation. Autistics have a highly sensitive system and so many different things can create the struggles that levels 2 and 3 (and their caretakers) face. The medical community needs to be far more collaborative and open to the lived experiences of all of us - we notice patterns and have made connections many cannot.

I have low support needs as does at least one of my children.. I still don't wish autism on anyone. it's hell.

that's exactly how I feel. my daughter has ADHD and man she's almost as tall as I am (and I'm not tall) and when she gets dysregulated she gets violent and I wish I could stop that

I work with students that have significant needs, and I understand the desire for a cure. I have sat with parents that are so loving, and don’t know what to do next. I get it, I just wish we had viable research… and we just don’t. Instead we get random “vaccines did it, or Tylenol did it” there has to be more… there has to be a better way to study it.

Thats why im worried about my sweet boy and his cute aggression. hes gotten much better but him thinking hair pulling on long blonde hair for someone a boy that probably going to be 200 lbs and 6feet tall. it was a few years but we finally made it. This is the stuff that keeps me up at night making sure he would be safe in a public setting.

100% get where you are at. My son is very sensory seeking so he wants hugs and kisses, squeezes, pats and his hands are always seeking something to touch. This can end up quite awkward and dangerous. We have worked hard but we are still super fearful as he is no longer the "cute" kid he is a maturing boy.
