probs cause they need a filter, bubbler, and heater and so many other things other than artificial rainbow pebbles

likely from ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate poisoning, if your tank is not cycled before getting a betta the water becomes toxic to the fish and blocks the bettas oxygen from transporting into the blood, so the betta suffocated to death. Pleaaaaase do research before getting any pet

its alright it's honestly not verry common knowledge that fish are high maintenance pets. it also dosent help that most pet store bettas are sick and already dying from swimming in their own juices for too long so don't feel bad. what I recommend is doing some researching on bettas getting a 5 gallon square tank, a small filter, and a heater along with some pretty hide outs for your betta before getting a new one. trust me I know it gets a bit pricy but trust me it's so worth it.

I totally get that most people are under the impression beta fish can live in a tiny container but they need much bigger (10 gal I believe?) than the half gallon tanks marketed, they need heaters, filters, proper substrate, filtered and proper ph water, and to be acclimated to their tanks. They are rather pricy to care for and the tanks need maintained. I would recommend looking for a beta subreddit or doing more research through professional sources (pet stores don’t always give accurate info). If you want a tiny tank like that you’d have to consider things like brine shrimp or moss balls unfortunately. I’m sorry you had to find out this way :(

Betta fishes need some things to be able to survive. They need at least a 5 gal tank, a filter, a heater, a thermometer to ensure water is at a good temperature, possibly a bubbler, and some decorations that won’t hurt their fins. All of this along with good food of course! It takes some time but if you’re willing to do this and cycle a tank before getting a new fish & testing the water for ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites and pH levels, then good luck! :)
