I have faced criticism in the past because I make my toddlers and preschoolers do things for themselves. And every year I tell every group of parents, “you are not doing your child any favors by doing everything for them.” Most two-year-olds can be taught how to put on a jacket and their shoes. They can clear their dishes from the table after meal times. They can help clean up spills and clean up toys after playtime. Start with small simple tasks and grow them as your child grows.

I have a lot of conversations about accepting failure as part of the learning process. It is OK if your baby comes home with not so great of a grade, that means we have more practice to do!
