@breathe_history: This painting captures a pivotal moment in English history: the aftermath of the Battle of Naseby in 1645. The battle was a turning point in the English Civil War, where Parliament’s New Model Army secured a decisive victory over King Charles I’s forces. At the centre, Oliver Cromwell is shown with fellow commanders, while Parliamentarian soldiers examine captured Royalist baggage. Among these were private letters from the King, later published to undermine his credibility. The scene reflects not only military triumph but also political strategy, as this victory shifted momentum firmly in favour of Parliament and against the Royalist cause.
