Do AKC papers really mean anything if you’re just adopting to have them as a pet and companion? From what I understand, the papers are really only useful if you’re going to be breeding or showing.

It’s so nice to find you! My Maggie was AKC show quality… My Bentley was not registered and was not show quality. Loved them both, fixed them both. Let the puppies come from a responsible breeder. This backyard breeding story happens with horses as well.

People do not get it. I hear you loud and clear. My first Golden we got was backyard bred and he had severe hip dysplasia. We didn’t know any better. Then I met my current breeder 28 years ago who taught me everything about maintaining a breed standard and what a reputable breeder is. I can tell you are just as wonderful as she is.

I have a mini golden doodle that I got fixed as soon as she turned 6 months and I have had so many people tell me I shouldn’t have gotten her fixed cause she would have made beautiful puppies!! And I always say absolutely NOT!! She is beautiful and I love her but there are plenty of beautiful dogs out there, I don’t need to add to it! And she is my baby! I got her for companionship not to try to make money!

I will die on this hill with you! I worked in a shelter for two years, how many reputable breeders came to surrender their dogs/puppies? NONE. but I can't tell you how many byb surrendered puppies because they couldn't find a home for them. REPUTABLE breeders are NOT the problem. lack of knowledge and responsibility is.

Fully agree with you. The problem, more than people not understanding, is that people don’t care. So many BYBs just see these animals as objects for profit, and the people buying from them just see their pets as objects for enjoyment. Once they’re a hassle, they’re done.

This was as she was older. In the 90’s I had a Dalmatian and wanted to breed her, but after talking to our vet, we were like no. Your 💯 right just because you have a cute puppy doesn’t make you a reputable breeder.

We’ve commented back and forth a few times in your video and I love to listen to you talk to your babies. I got my Aussie from a back yard breeder and she had some issues, anxiety, and reactive with me. I had to take her to a behaviorist, but I stuck by her and got her the help she needed and had to put her to sleep on 7/29, she would’ve been 14 last week. Most likely if anyone else would have gotten her with these issues would have put her out or put in a shelter. I appreciate your work and am thankful for breeders like you, because the one I got mine from was not good, he was just selling puppies. My heart is broke because I miss my girl so much. Thanks for all you do!!

I agree with you. I have an Aussie. She isn't registered, she is my pet and beautiful to me. Papers are not important to me. She is spayed. There are too many messed up Australian shepherd and other breeds for this reason. I know a girl that has 2 aussies, brother & sister from different litters. Yes, she bred them 😡. Because she wanted puppies. This made me so upset. People need to stop!!!!

That’s been one of my house rules for decades. If you bring a horse, cat or dog home they get nipped right off the bat. No exceptions and for the same reasons you are talking about.
