@captain_taylor_morgan: Overconsumption has been my biggest struggle over the past few months. I felt like I wasn’t in control of my cravings and would usually indulge them. I would give in to temptations and constantly be seeking instant pleasure. “I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.” - Romans 7:15 I found myself rationalizing (creating logical arguments that make sense) for why I “earned it” or that this would be the “last time.” Prayer was (and is) by far the most effective tool I used to combat this until finally being delivered from it. The more I relied on my own will power and tried to “figure it out,” the more I failed, stuck in a cycle of self-sabotage. Can you relate? But the more I took time to pause and surrender to God in prayer, the more He strengthened me. We must die to our old self if we wish to be transformed. This is a painful process that requires meeting the depths of yourself in radical truth and vulnerability. No more numbing. No more distractions. No more “sugar coating.” You must commit to replacing “pleasure” with “reward.” Commit to living for the gratification of feeling your best tomorrow, instead of the short term satisfaction of feeling good in the moment.
