@darragh_adelaide: The lies, the stereotypes, the attacks and the talking points - we’ve heard it all before. The far-right are using the same playbook that saw millions of Irish people discriminated against, abused, dehumanised and treated as threats and dangers. Wherever we went, it was other migrants we formed communities with, who saw past the lies and who looked at us as human beings searching for dignity and safety just like themselves. We’re saying no to the hate and the division and we’re coming together with our migrant community to show the same solidarity they offered us and show all of Ireland what this country really stands for. It can feel like the far-right are bigger and stronger than they are, but we know we’re bigger, we know Irish people reject their hate en-masse, that they’re just as disgusted by the attacks and by the dehumanisation than anyone and that they respect and appreciate the contributions migrants make in Ireland. We don’t deny Ireland has problems, it has more problems than most people can keep track of, but those problems existed long before the far-right started blaming migrants and the people creating our problems are still the same - successive governments who neglect and deprive our communities to put the needs of multinational finance and investment funds first. If you’ve had enough of the fear and the division, if you’ve had enough of wondering when we’ll finally come out and turn the tide on the far-right, now’s the time. We need you to join us on September 27th at 1pm at the garden of remembrance for an all island celebration of our migrant community and a chance to show we are stronger and larger than the hate mongers and dividers.

Guys you have to remember this was a long time ago from a generation that is mostly now gone. Totally understand your viewpoint but their view is an outdated view. I and most of people in my generation respect and like the Irish a lot

A lot of this was actually class based. Irish people who came from rural or working class areas were treated very badly, but if you were middle class and or of the professional classes, you blended in (if you hid your Irishmess).

There is nothing wrong with immigration but there must assimilation, using th3 James Connolly line is laughable, I’m fairly sure he didn’t mean that the country he died for should accept mass immigration from around the world of people looking for free money whilst those he died for had to leave for Australia and elsewhere because home was too expensive. Facts matter.

I'm an immigrant, I've spent 25 years in the netherlands. I'm only 75% assimilated, I speak the language, pay my taxes, celebrate the holidays and respect other people. But I don't want to be dutch and no one expects me to. I'm proud to be Irish and I'm allowed to celebrate that here. I'm also white and I 100% know that makes a difference. I've experienced prejudice but not the same as other immigrants. People who shout, ireland for the Irish are just plain, simple racists, can't convince me otherwise.
