Imo both endings are so rough and pay homage to how complex grief, survivors guilt and trauma are. Neither ending is “bad” or “good” because they’re both heartbreaking for different reasons. I personally preferred Verso’s ending because it allowed for more healing/closure rather than continuing maladaptive grief cycles but I cannot blame anyone for picking Maelle’s for the characters and her awful situation outside the canvas. Overall I’m blown away by how beautiful this game is and I genuinely cannot believe they captured this. Someone said Maelle's ending is the beginning of her villain arc, and it's really hard to unsee that now. Especially since Verso didn't look AT ALL happy to be there.

I personally feel that verso ending is the closure everyone needs. They talked about mirroring worlds. When Alicia dreams of the real verso in the fire he says "you're ok". When the painted verso holds her as she begins to dissapear, he says "you're ok". That coupled with how desperate she acted when his soul wants to stop painting, the feelings he feels due to his family's additions to the canvas, he feels it all. It is no longer his world but a depiction of his families trauma and grief. It's time to let them all go. It's time to heal and move on.

Both endings are bittersweet in opposite directions, this ending starts sweet with “everyone’s back yay!” and ends bitter with “Alicia is denying reality just as Aline did and will suffer for it in the long run.” While Verso’s ending starts bitter with “the canvas is gone.” but ends on a sweeter note of “the family now has another opportunity to be there for each other.” Neither ending is good or bad especially once you bring in the idea of the sentience of the people of the canvas

the only reason i picked this ending is what's stopping alicia from unaliving herself outside the canvas and causing more grief(?) in her family. my opinion is that she won't be able to handle it especially after everything but after seeing verso's ending she moves on which is good and i think thats the better ending
