It’s as if when the USSR fell, and the threat of socialism/communism was no longer a major factor, the US didn’t feel they had to try improving and bettering and are just reverting to its pre 1920s self. At least that’s my theory.

I argue that thr Lincoln assassination was the final act of the civil war and effectively gave the south the win. The assassination was part of a larger plot destablize the Union government by killing it entire leadership, but they got caught after the first killing. However, it was enough as lincoln's VIP end reconstruction, allowing the plantation class to retain political, social, and economic power. Those are the people that Barry Goldwater sold the republican party to with the southern strategy. Those are the people who created the maga movement well before trump became the focal point.
