I use lighter sets to open and mobilize my hips and knees while also getting my core to solidly connect my legs to my upper body. At the beginning, I expand my chest and hold it tall like a gorilla. Before I pull myself down into the squat, I grip the bar hard and I squeeze inwards with my chest muscles. Then I imagine that my hands are holding an immovable pipe so instead of curling the bar up to my shoulders, I’m thinking of pulling my shoulders down to the bar while still keeping my chest tall like a gorilla. 100 pounds is heavy for me in this exercise so I need to keep my weight on the outer edges of my feet while focusing on keeping my inner ankles high.  This activates and connects the muscles on the outsides  of my legs which allows me to use a lot more muscle to support the bottom position while I struggle to bring the weight up. Keeping my inner ankles high activate my big toes and lifts the arches of my flat feet, giving me a solid foundation.  It’s a very dynamic blend of a concentric biceps curl with an eccentric squat and the effect on the core and the rest of the body is powerful and good.  I’m creating a course for people who are new or returning to strength training. The course is also going to focus on exercises that are appropriate and effective for older people like me.  These exercises will teach you how to control your muscles and joints through their available range of motion by breathing and going slowly.  Thank you for being here. Aloha
