Inside this living effigy, a dancer manipulates the wooden clapper that serves as the goat’s mouth, creating sharp, resonant snaps that echo against the winter air. This is not merely a performance but a ritual of vitality, a homage to the eternal cycles of life and death, fertility and renewal. The capre, guided by the man who whistles with commanding sharpness, circle the yard of a village home in a hypnotic dance. Their pace quickens, their movements erratic yet purposeful, like ancient deities awoken to celebrate and guard the season’s bounty. The sound of the wooden clapper, activated by a subtle nudge of the handler’s stick or its contact with the frozen earth, punctuates the frenetic rhythm. Each clap reverberates like a heartbeat, raw and alive, as if the goat itself were something more than artifice—perhaps a bridge to the mystical. This is a festival of senses, not only for what you see but for what you feel. The air hums with energy; the dancers’ cries mingle with the clapping of the capre.
