The most horrifying part about the house slave plot to me isn’t that the wizards who profit from their enslavement try to persuade Hermoine from dismantling the system. It’s the fact that the house elves are written to genuinely want to be slaves. They are so happy to serve, even if their heads end up as decor on the walls. They are offended that Hermoine wants to free them. One elf is freed as a PUNISHMENT and she is so miserable, she becomes an alcoholic because she misses her masters so much. That’s so sinister.

i hate jk rowling but the house elves are so interesting to me, like i think itd be intriguing to write extensively about their mindset and stuff, and how due to the time period of them being put to more gruesome labour (during voldermorts spree) it was overlooked until it was normalised, like just taking a deep dive into wixen and elfs and really thinking about it. i might just be autistic though

growing up, all I saw was diversity because there was little to no representation of non whites where I grew up. looking back now I m horrified of how stereotyped and problematic the 'representation' was 😭

HI!! mudblood (and half blood and all of the dirty words) is actually NOT a made up slur. It was a real term to describe people of jewish or romani descent in 1930s-40s germany. It’s a real slur that got real people killed. members of my family had to flee bc of the (accurate) accusation. One of the single worst things jkr has ever done was convince literally the entire world that she made that word up and ill stand on that.

I think it's even worse concerning the house elf thing when JK Rowling has said on Twitter that she could/does see Hermione as black(I can't exactly remember which) which means everyone was possibly mocking a black british girl for wanting house elves to be freed

Not only that, but with Dean Thomas he’s also depicted as being an extremely abu$ive partner, which around the time that she was growing up was an AWFUL stereotype about black men, how they could never be a good romantic partner to a white person, and in the books he’s very manipulative and cruel to Ginny
