Spa Francorchamps or how we like to call it: OUR FIRST WIN! Qualifying 1 didn't go super well. The tires weren't in the window yet when a crash between a 935 and E36 M3 GTR caused a red flag for the session - leaving us at P3 with quite a gap in laptimes. Q2 had worse track conditions and so we couldn't improve our first time - so we would start from P4 - not bad, but not amazing either. How we noticed that our chassis cracked and how we welded that just an hour before the race is a story for another day. Anyways, Oli was in the seat for the start of the race, getting the timing right at the green light and making moves on the first lap up Eau Rouge. Within 2 laps we were in viewing distance of P1 in class. All it took then were some „big balls", as James Hunt famously put it, to gain on P1 through Raidillion down Kemmel straight. Slipstream - late breaking and we were in P1. Surprisingly fast. A steady 2:55 min pace got us a comfortable lead and some fun fights with some Porsche RSRs. Then came the rain. First some drizzle at Blanchimont, then heavy rain out of nowhere. The rain radar and forecast hadn't shown any of this just minutes before the race. Naturally, panic in the pitlane erupted. .. Under Full Course Yellow (FCY) almost everyone came into the pits to change to rain tires. Honestly, we weren't prepared for this at all. Too few mechanics, just one wheel gun and pouring rain led to a unusually long pit stop. Our prior lead on P2 cut us some slack but we just managed to get out of the pits right before P2 did. Then came the red flag - minutes later we got the official information that the race was off. Some poor E36 crashed hard on the Kemmel straight. (He's fine as far as we know) Although we were sad that @sit.911 couldn't show off his skills in the wet, it meant we had officially won out first race - @hfmstrs.racing
