the biggest issue I have with this is that we don't want kids to do the boring stuffs
but it's the boring stuff that actually helps them

Firstly to be successful don’t listen to any English coach over the age of 50. They haven’t got a clue. The whole world play small sided games for the majority of a youth players career, in England the coaches don’t like it, they want the player to learn a single position in 11 aside. Who produced better players Europe or England?

England will always struggle to produce talent because of the state of the pitches and the fact the leagues are played in winter.

If you have a good coach you will find that 60 minutes will be fun. They find ways to make it fun while your actually learning

Playing With My Balls :
A young kid gets more out of taking a ball outside and practising themselves than they will in 10 training sessions. I watch my boys under 7’s training and somethings in the first 30 minutes of an hour session some of them have touched the ball less than 30 times!!! When I was younger I was out with a ball myself practising touching the ball thousands of times until you felt like you had complete control over it. Too many coaches think young boys should be learning 1 or 2 touch football… absolute bollocks.

More training - more touches on the ball. Training is the answer - not more games.

Is there any lack of young talent at the moment though? Those kids who want it enough will do what’s required

He is right, one session a week isn’t not enough for players wanting to go on in the game. It’s why parents are desperate to get them into an academy or pay for 1-2-1 coaching. However for 90% of children it’s enough for them to play football and enjoy it, which should be the whole point of it. In my (all be it limited) experience the ones with pushy parents doing these extra sessions are the ones not enjoying the game

Several years ago the club I coached with started what we called a “juggle club” to encourage kids to practice juggling which is tremendous help for ball mastery. The reward(based on age group) was a club T shirt that said the number of juggles. I don’t remember the exact numbers but for example the younger age groups had to juggle for 20-25 times in a row using any part of the body other than hands/arms to get the shirt and had to do it in front of one of the coaches. As they older and/or got better the numbers increased. After a couple of years we had many players under 14 that were easily doing 100 or more juggles.

if you play for your school and for a team you should be okay but id definitely agree with training in your spare time
